Description

THE BURY is a significant property dating back to the 16th century and is Grade II listed. Traditionally constructed with a heavy timber frame of oak or elm with rendered elevations under a tiled roof. There are later extensions which now offer extensive character accommodation. The majority of the rooms are timbered, with views over the garden.

The accommodation is set over three floors and includes an entrance hall, porch and cloakroom, three reception rooms, as well as a conservatory and a generous sized office. There is a second office above the family room at the other end of the house. A second hall leads to the kitchen/breakfast room which has a range of storage cupboards and an oil-fired Aga and doors lead to the terrace and pool, beyond this there is a family room, walk in pantry and a generously proportioned utility room. There is also a useful cellar.

On the first and second floors there are six bedrooms served by three bath/shower rooms and two en-suite. All bedrooms either have an en-suite or wash hand basin.

Outside, the grounds and outbuildings are notable and form an important part of this small country estate. The Bury lies in the pretty hamlet of Bury Green and is approached through a remote controlled 5-bar gate to a tarmacadam driveway which leads in turn to a 4-bay car port providing garaging. Adjoining and behind the car port, there is a large timber framed and weather-boarded barn.

Adjoining the barn there is a three-bedroom single storey cottage which has been renovated and provides very good accommodation including a sitting/dining room, kitchen, modern bathroom and three good sized bedrooms. The building adjoins a sizeable period barn. The bungalow is attached to the barn, and with the relevant planning consents, this barn could be incorporated partially or entirely with the bungalow to create an exceptional dwelling. Alternatively, part of the barn might be converted leaving the other section to be used for recreational purposes - padel board, squash court, table tennis, etc.

The recreational facilities include a heated swimming pool (air source heat pump) which sits in a sheltered position just behind the house and has an extensive terrace and lovely views. On the opposite side of the house there is a hard tennis court, which requires some work. On the left-hand side of the driveway there is a paddock and an agricultural building with stables, a field shelter, manège and a chicken run. Closer to the house there is a weatherboarded building housing a snooker room, gym and garden store.

The gardens are very well established with a terrace and a meadow and a pleasant walk amongst mature trees leads to a large pond, there is also a smaller pond closer to the house. Within 200m of the house there are two paddocks amounting to about 11 acres in total which could be available to purchase separately.

AGENT'S NOTE: In addition to the main entrance gate there is a gate to the paddock with historical access to the Green. To formalise this access agreement of the Parish Council would be required.

The property was purchased by the current owners over 30 years ago and, at that time, there was planning consent to convert the barn into residential accommodation.

The full post code for the property is SG11 2HE, but on arrival in Bury Green is it recommended that you use the directions in the details to locate the property.
