There has been a house on the site of Oxney Court for centuries and, like all historic homes, there have been transformations and changes made over the years. In the 17th Century the timber frame house was demolished and in the 18th Century was rebuilt in a gothic baronial style, which is evident today; additional renovations were undertaken in the 19th Century.

During the 19th century the house was owned by the uncle of the renowned botanist and pioneer of Kew Gardens, Sir Joseph Banks, and the spectacular gardens and grounds were laid out and planted, with many exotic and rare species trees remaining today.
