Gold Swift Wood, near Nottingham, Nottinghamshire
- Land size
- 4.25 acres
Description
Gold Swift Wood is an attractive mixed woodland with oak, birch, Scots pine and hawthorn. It is of a manageable size for someone looking for a productive woodland..
The high canopy is mainly tall oak trees, as well as the russet-trunked Scots pines in scattered groupings, here and there.. A flourishing shrub layer of hawthorn and the odd holly gives a good deal of privacy, and along the tracksides, woodland edge shrubs, such as sloe bushes, offer up blossom in the spring as well as autumn fruits.
A path leads directly into the wood from the ride stop, to an area near a characterful birch tree where a rustic bench is located. It’s a great place to pause for a while and take in the sights and sounds of the forest. From this point, a number of routes can be explored within the wood, amid ferns and almost effervescent woodland grasses. A range of fungi and mosses can also be found.
