Description

A rare opportunity to acquire and modernise a substantial and historic country residence in the charming coastal village of Bradwell-on-Sea. Arranged over an impressive 7,500 sq ft, this eight bedroom detached home offers a unique blend of history and character, with origins dating back to the 1400s and later enhanced with elegant Georgian and Victorian façades.

Approached via a sweeping in-and-out driveway, the property is set centrally within approximately five acres of paddocks, providing both privacy and scope for equestrian or lifestyle pursuits. A significant addition to the grounds is the handsome London-brick stables, offering excellent potential for conversion, equestrian use, or ancillary accommodation (subject to the necessary consents).

This landmark residence presents an exceptional canvas for restoration and improvement. The accommodation is both grand in scale and flexible in layout, offering vast potential to create a truly distinguished country home that reflects modern living while preserving its rich heritage.

Located in the peaceful setting of Bradwell-on-Sea, surrounded by open countryside and within reach of coastal walks and village amenities. Beyond, lies the town of Southminster (c.15 mins), with direct rail access to London Liverpool street and larger shops/amenities.

Excerpt from Maldon District Council local heritage:
"Orplands is known to have existed since the 15th century, but the farmhouse was rebuilt in the Victorian period (altered with Georgian and Victorian facades). [The South wing] is constructed of yellow brick and roofed with clay tiles. The front range is two-storeys in height with a gabled cross-wing at the left-hand (western) end. The bargeboards have a pierced foliate decoration. The front and side doorways are framed by elaborate arched openings with carved stone responds. On the front elevation there are square bay windows with dentilled brick cornices. The windows are painted timber sashes with a single pane of glass to both the upper and the lower sash. This is a substantially complete Victorian farmhouse of very good local architectural interest, displaying high quality materials and detailing."
