Stephenson's Wood, Carlisle, Cumbria
- Land size
- 3.75 acres
Description
Stephenson's Wood is located on the northern boundary of the larger woodland Rowbank Woods. Designated a PAWS woodland, indicating that this area has been woodland for many a year. Planted with Larch around 50-60 years ago, the woodland has been left to mature, which has allowed numerous native broadleaf species to colonise between the well-spaced conifers.
The topography is largely level with a gentle rise to the north, which then drops away to the boundary track and fence line. This area has several large oak and beech trees, together with some impressive sycamore.
The canopy is light and open, allowing bramble, bluebell, foxglove and sorrel to proliferate. A variety of mosses and ferns give a pleasant verdant carpet throughout the seasons.
