The Fossdyke Navigation canal adjoins the land. The Fossdyke connects the River Trent at Torksey to Lincoln and dates back to Roman times, so may be the oldest canal still in use.
The land is classified as part grade 2 and part grade 3 on the new Predictive Agricultural Land Classification Map (England). The soils are shown on the 1:250,000 soil map of England and Wales as belonging to the Wickham 2 and the Blackwood soil series.
Wickham 2 is characterised by fine loamy over clayey, fine silty over clayey and clayey soils with land use including cereals and grassland.
Blackwood is characterised by sandy and coarse loamy soils with land use including cereals, potatoes and sugar beet.
Location
The land is situated to the south of the hamlet of Hardwick on the east side of the Fossdyke Navigation canal and 1 mile west of the village of Saxilby. Hardwick is approximately 9 miles north west of the City of Lincoln in the county of Lincolnshire.
The land can be accessed from either Saxilby or Torksey village.
From Saxilby take Sykes Lane to the west for approximately 2 miles and turn left on to Hardwick Lane and follow south for approximately 1.1 miles and the area of hardstanding and land is on your left-hand side.
From Torksey take Station Road to the east and turn right on to Hardwick Lane and follow south east for approximately 1.5 miles before turning right on to Hardwick Lane and follow south for approximately 1.1 miles and the area of hardstanding and land is on your left-hand side.
