Description
IN THE OWNER'S WORDS:
"Admiral Simpson's Residential Moorings on the market for first time since 1946.
The Moorings cover an area of former Manor of Trevethoe & Royal Duchy of Cornwall foreshore
and has the ancient right to fly the flags of Trevethoe Cross, Cornish Ensign & Maltese Cross.
The latter [Maltese Cross] from 'Shrimp' Simpson defender of Malta, who wrote the book "Up Periscope", later Rear Admiral of the Southern Fleet.
The Moorings and adjacent land is owned by a well-known local family & former St. Ives Mayor.
Hayle Estuary is famous as the 'Atlantic Airport' for birds being the furthest Southwest.
Nestled at the tidal head of St. Ives Bay between the famous towns of St. Ives & Hayle, adjacent to the lovely village of Lelant.
With high environmental offset value and blue carbon store the additionally available land has investment potential."
THE PROPERTY:
The mooring is truly 'one of a kind' as it is the only available permanent dock at this point on the estuary. Having been held by the same family for decades this is a rare opportunity to site a boat with outstanding water views.
The estuary is a very special environment. The tidal waters attract over 300 species of birds, particularly during migration season. To have the opportunity to position a boat here is unique.
The historic deeds allow a footpath to be created as well as to "lay pipes, wires, cables and other conducting media" to enable a moored boat to connect to services.
The location of the property would be ideal for a unique AirBnB, wedding venue or accommodation as there is the benefit of previously acquired mixed accommodation rights. It is envisaged the best use is as a semi-permanent moored vessel as the tides would allow only occasional sailing.
SURROUNDING AREA
The mooring is situated on the Hayle Estuary, between the towns of Hayle and Lelant. Expansive sandy beaches are only a short distance away.
The Estuary is the most south westerly estuary in the UK and is a RSPB sanctuary. This is a haven for up to 18,000 migrant and wintering waterfowl – especially during severe weather, when conditions here may be milder than elsewhere in the UK. Deemed a site of special scientific interest, it is home to over 300 species of birds, including the endangered osprey.
Hayle sits on the famous South West Coast Path, an epic coastal walk traversing the county’s rugged ex-mining coastline and idyllic sandy beaches.
The quaint historic town is Cornwall’s best kept secret, boasting miles of untouched sandy beaches without the crowds of neighbouring St Ives.
The town is situated on the main train line from London, making it easy to access and ideal for commuting.
Hayle’s beautiful beaches are perfect for water sports, surfing, walking and wildlife spotting. The waves at Gwithian beach are consistent and varied, catering to surfers of all levels of experience.
Hayle Towans beach is vast expanse of golden sand backed by sand dunes and is the beginning of Hayle’s ‘three-mile beach’ within St Ives bay.
Towards St Ives, the local village of Lelant include a winebar and deli shop, public houses and a Parish Church. The West Cornwall golf club is just a short distance away on the edge of the village.
The nearby fishing port of St. Ives is well known for its prolific art scene and offers a wide range of shops and restaurants as well as further beautiful sandy beaches.
