Description
“Although our county is graced with so many pleasant prospects, as scarce any share the like, in so much as almost any little hill largely affords the same, yet aspiring Hanbury overlooketh them all. A stately seat meet for a King’s Palace … But Hanbury’s Church, which invironed with highe and mighty trees, is able to terrifye a far off any ignorant enimy with a deceytful showe of an invincible castell, may ryghtly be called the Lanthorne of our County”. - John Habington 1637.
Thank you, John, and we are sure you will be glad to know that St Mary's Church now invites people in rather than scaring them off, as does the beautiful Hanbury Hall, too.
Moving on from the 1600's and into more modern times, the village of Hanbury is said to have inspired the fictional village of Ambridge, or as most will know it, "The Archers" on Radio 4 (sorry for the earworm now running around your head). The 'real' village of Hanbury has roughly 300 homes, and almost a third of these are Grade II listed, and we are happy to say The Stables is one of these, allowing you to buy your own little bit of history.
So, we have established that Hanbury is a sought-after area - John says so, so it must be true. But in the last almost 400 years, things have changed - you now have easy access to the M5 and also M42, 17 miles from Birmingham and 14 from Worcester, and we imagine that Mr. Habington is putting his ghostly thumb up in approval.
The Stables is a wonderfully presented, Grade II listed barn that has gone through many alterations over the years. Those who are worried about a property being listed can relax, as all the work and internal changes have all been done. You can wear your Grade II listed badge with pride!
The vaulted and beamed ceiling in the living room is a joy to sit in, looking up has never been so much fun, and if you get a stiff neck, there are all the windows running the length of the room to look out over your garden, and in the colder months when the curtains are drawn, light the wood burner and enjoy the stunning brick fireplace, no need for a T.V anymore. The vaulted and beamed ceilings carry on into the kitchen/breakfast room, and its integrated appliances, with an area by the windows to put your table and enjoy your morning coffee whilst deciding if you are going to wash your car or just look at your ceilings.
Also on the ground floor is one of the bedrooms which could also be used as an office space, allowing you to shut the door and avoid the ping of an email alert, allowing you to just enjoy being at home, in addition to the bedroom there is a shower room, we shouldn't really just call it just a shower room as it looks like it has wandered in from a "Beautiful Homes" photo shoot.
Upstairs, unsurprisingly, there are more beams (don't worry, the "highe and mighty trees" still standeth!) giving you the feeling of being transported back through the centuries, until your reach the bath room which again looks like it could have come straight from a photo shoot.
There are two garden areas, one for you to potter around, pruning and mowing that you look at from your living room, and the one where you can just sit back and relax, maybe have a BBQ, read a book, or just enjoy a natter with a soft drink (other drinks are available).
Externally, there is parking for five cars, and the driveway leads up to the double garage, and there is storage over.
With a thumbs up from Mr. Habington, and a thumbs up from us, all we are waiting on is a thumbs up from you - so book in a viewing and see if this beautiful home will be your next one.
