Access requires the permission of the owner. In terms of approach to the wood, I'd recommend parking at the end of the dotted red line on the attached map and walking through the fields. There's an easy track which crosses a burn near the wood, The easiest way to get there is via the A68 and before you get to Oxton you turn right down a B road that takes you towards Hartside Farm. It's a tarred road until the dotted line on the map.
